Badminton News: Asian Badminton Championships - Malaysian Pair Win Mixed Doubles Title

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying emerged champions when they defeated their South Korean rivals in the final of the Asian Badminton Championships in New Delhi Sunday.



In a three-setter final, Peng Soon and Liu Ying took one hour and six minutes to overcome Yoo Yeon Seong-Kim Min Jung in 21-17,20-22 and 21-19.

The win was all the more sweet for the duo as it was the first time they won an international title.

However, the national women's doubles pair of Vivian Hoo and Woon Khei were not able to repeat the mixed doubles feat, going down to China's Pan Pan-Tian Qing in 10-21,6-21 in the final.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the win by Peng Soon-Liu Ying was beyond expectations.

"We hope the victory will lead to greater things in future," he said when contacted by Bernama.
